Glorious and Grand – Ginger!

ginger-1714196_1920 (1)

Ginger is used in numerous forms, including fresh, dried, pickled, preserved, crystallized, candied, and powdered or ground. The flavor is somewhat peppery and slightly sweet, with a strong and spicy aroma. I have found that people either love it or hate it, but with that said, if we realize how amazing it is for us, it would be wise to learn to love it yes?. 🙂

Ginger has been purported to exert a variety of powerful therapeutic and preventive effects and has been used for thousands of years for the treatment of hundreds of ailments from colds to cancer.

It is known to greatly aid in digestion and assimilation and is widely regarded to help prevent colds, flu, motion sickness, and vertigo. Ginger can also help to alleviate menstrual cramps, nausea, heartburn, migraines, sore throats, exhaustion, fatigue, and constipation and it is great in providing relief from the stomach flu and food poisoning according to Anthony Williams, The Medical Medium.

Anthony also states that ginger also contains potent anti-inflammatory compounds called gingerols and is a powerful painkiller which makes it especially beneficial for those who suffer with joint, muscle, and nerve pain. Ginger has incredible immune-boosting and germ fighting abilities and has even been shown to help provide protection and relief from E.coli, Staph infections, and Candida albicans.

In ancient times, ginger was highly regarded as a spiritual cleanser and used before and during holy days as a way to awaken and purify the body, mind, and spirit. Fresh ginger is one of the most potent ways to receive its health benefits. Try making a liter of ginger water or tea everyday by adding freshly grated ginger in water and let steep for 10-20 minutes. Adding some raw honey and fresh squeezed lemon juice will enhance its flavor and add to its protective and healing properties.

Fresh ginger is also excellent juiced with apples and celery for an energizing and immune boosting drink. Using fresh ginger in any of your cooking or preparing of food will also provide healing benefits and should be added whenever possible. If you find fresh ginger too strong for your liking, then try using ginger in powder, capsule, tea, or tincture form that can be found online or in your local health food store.

I personally am looking for more ways to add this feisty plant, from a plant family that includes cardamom and turmeric, into my daily diet. Today, for example, I threw in some chopped fresh ginger root, fresh chopped turmeric, chopped apples, cinnamon, maple syrup and honey into a slow cooker with water. It’s gently brewing right now and I can’t wait to try it. I will strain it and drink it like a warm and soothing tea with benefits. 🙂 So many good ingredients in there! My body and soul are going to love it!

Celery Juice is the Bomb!

celery juice pitcherred
As many of you know, I am now a big advocate of drinking celery juice everyday or as often as I can, and I’m talkin straight up celery juice, with nothing added. So many people are asking me about it. In fact, almost everywhere I go, even offline, people are asking me about it and how to make it. So I decided I would put together this blog post to share some great info and refer you to its benefits and how to make it.

The source for this amazing life changing food, which is actually an herb, comes from Anthony Williams, The Medical Medium.

There are countless miraculous benefits from drinking straight celery juice and one of them is to help rebuild the hydrochloric acid in the gut. So many people suffer from this lack of the combination of good hydrochloric acid and they cannot break down foods properly and in turn assimilate the nutrients from them. It is a serious issue!

Anthony says some of the additional benefits are:

– it’s alkalizing
– enzyme-rich
– electrolyte-enhancing
– liver-repairing
– blood-sugar-balancing
– antiseptic
– eases constipation and bloat
– has calming affects
– helps with fear and anxiety
– helps increase bile to help with fatty liver
– helps with inflammation
– helps to break down and flush out viruses and bactieria
– cleanse the thyroid and increase production of T3 Thyroid hormone
– helps with brain fog
– supports neuron function
– repairs DNA
– very important – it helps to flush out viruses!!!!!
– AND MORE!!!

Seeing My New Medical Specialist

LOVE ekg
Today I saw my new medical specialist for the first and last time. 🙂 For many years, once a year, I have been seen by a specialist for the monitoring of my hemochromatosis gene that I carry. A couple of years ago my specialist retired and I was referred to a new one who I saw today for the first time.

It was such a Joy to meet this new doctor. I enjoyed my old one but this one was just one of those people who you love the minute you meet them. I am sure it helped that she was wearing the same shoes that I have, just in a different color. 🙂

I also enjoyed this doc because we chatted about food and how it affects the body and how changes can make a difference. We discussed which blood tests are markers for inflammation. We discussed the latest research regarding genes. We discussed my blood work, ultrasound and a prior MRI. She showed me my labs, my charts, and answered any question I had. She treated me like an equal partner in my health care and I felt excited to be a willing participant. I also felt happy and proud that the changes I have made have made a difference. In fact, I am doing so well, I never have to see her again, which is kind of sad, because I loved her 🙂

Anyhow, why am I sharing this story? I am sharing this story to offer hope and encouragement because this is what we talked about when I was there. For example fatty liver is an epidemic and yet it can be totally reversed. Yes it takes time and changes need to be made, but I want everyone to know that reversal is possible. This doctor shared that with me and it confirmed my own belief that it was possible. With proper diet, lifestyle changes and recommendations from your health care provider, it is possible to make great strides in improving this situation and others.

I couldn’t wait to get home to write this so that it might be a blog post of hope and encouragement for everyone. So many people reach out to me as my clients or just through messaging asking me about fatty liver, and other issues, and ask is there hope? So I want everyone to know that there is always hope and there are always things we can do to improve our health. I myself, am seeing this happen for me!

Alright I am going to call this post a wrap but I would like to leave you with a couple of thoughts. There is always something that WE can do to improve our own health, that WE are active participants in our own health care, and that it is okay to ask about your results, labs, etc. so that you can better understand what it all means and in turn you can become a better participant in your own health care.

Nature’s Gifts

Rhubarb.jpg

My hubby was cleaning up an area at the cottage a couple of weeks ago and when he showed me his work, thinking I would be impressed, he was surprised when I got upset! He had cleaned up alright. He had taken out some rhubarb that had magically appeared there the prior year. I assumed that a bird or the wind had graciously delivered the seeds to this new spot and was delighted that I now had rhubarb at the camp, but not anymore after his clean up job. 😦

Anyhow, I got over it, but I was so excited to discover this little gift when I looked this weekend! I declared “Thank you Universe!”. I was so happy to see this little rhubarb plant on this large patch of earth. There it was standing all by itself presenting itself as a gracious gift to us!! I was delighted and my hubby of course, felt much better then as he was off the hook. 🙂

Life is full of gifts if we take the time to appreciate them. I look at this rhubarb plant and think of all the nourishment and pleasure it can provide.

Here is a great article with Smoothie Recipes for Rhubarb

I hope you enjoy finding the gifts that are waiting for you and that you celebrate in them!

I Can’t Stop Looking at this Picture…

1 year review.png

I love the FB memories thing, but today when it came up, I was in for a shocker!

Looking at this picture from one year ago today (picture on the left) prompted me to take the picture on the right (just today) to compare the two. This was really a vulnerable experience for me and I debated whether to share it or not, but here I am.

I am amazed at the difference I see. It made me reflect on the changes I have been making in my life. As many of you know, I made a decision to NOT buy into the “I’m getting older” model and to flip it around to “I’m getting younger all the time and it’s working” model. 🙂 🙂

I have also coined a phrase for myself and for my nutritional practice which is “Nutrition IS the Mission”, and I am feeling really, really, good about the results I am seeing not only in myself, but in my clients.

When I look at these two pictures I realize yes, I have lost a lot of weight, but what gets me excited the most is how nourished I look in the 2nd picture. The weight is secondary to me. My skin looks so much better and I can see and feel an entirely different energy in picture #2. The person in picture #2 is embracing her health and the ability to transform it, and it’s working and it’s showing.

For me though most important is the personal empowerment I feel from knowing that changes can and do make a difference and I know that if they work for me, they can work for others. This is exciting!!!!

I do not aspire to any trendy diet, but focus on more nutrition, Joy and just more… more of the good stuff… especially fruit. I am an advocate of more fruit in the diet and even potatoes. Potatoes were something I did not eat, but now that I ‘know’ how good they are for us, I enjoy them like crazy. I really enjoy the work of Anthony Williams, The Medical Medium, and have learned from him and his teachings and that has been hugely helpful.

Another thing I am focusing on is removing heavy metals from my body and helping others with this as well. By adding in more nutrients and removing pathogens and heavy metals, we can help to balance our bodies and they can run at a more optimal level. Our bodies are always trying to heal us and when we support them, well they love it and do a better job at it. 🙂

Anyhow thanks for reading along and I truly appreciate your support by being here.

I feel as though my entire life has prepared me for this time and I am looking forward to sharing all that I have learned through my own personal experience and my nutritional education. I am excited to continue improving my own life and in helping others on their journey to healthier lives using Nutrition as a catalyst to healing and to making positive change.

Food * Fun * Health

When you are preparing food make it fun and enjoyable. I have a saying in my house when it comes to preparing food. “Act like your life depends on it because it does”. 🙂

Although I say that lightly, in reality it is the absolute truth! Feeding our body with healthy foods that provide nutrients is of the utmost importance.

Personally, I made a decision not long ago, but a very serious decision…. I decided that I wanted to make changes to my diet and life before life dictated to me that I must make changes. I never wanted to get to the place where I could not eat the things I love.

So now I have fun with food. I delight in preparing food. I also believe that the more you enjoy the process of preparation, the better and more healing the food is for you. It is a reciprocated energy and a force unto its own. We’ve all heard the saying about preparing food with love and there is truth in that.

It is also a great idea to involve other family members or friends. In the picture below, my daughter and I were developing our now go-to recipe for our yummy gluten free muffins. I think I enjoy this activity more than any other… cooking together and developing recipes with her. We are like a team chatting, supporting and encouraging each other in the kitchen. 🙂 I am very happy also, that I am teaching her cooking skills and about how to make nourishing food. I think this is one of the most important skills she will ever learn and it will carry her well throughout her life. She is learning to be very in tune to what is good for her body and also how she feels after eating certain foods.

So go have fun with your food. Try new things. Maybe it’s just one new fruit or vegetable and you find a new way to prepare it. Or you work at making your presentation of the food a little more appealing like in this picture. Whatever it is, do it in love and with love and put your heart into it. The results will be worth it. 🙂
